Robert Newland Shares His Secret to Longevity & Safe Trucking
Began Driving for Stevens Transport in 2011
Congrats to Stevens Transport driver Robert Newland for reaching one million safe and accident-free miles! When we asked Robert what the secret to making this huge milestone, he credited his priority on safety. “I always make it a point to follow all of the rules and standards set by Stevens. If you follow them, then you too will find success in this job.”
Robert’s journey to Stevens started in May of 2011 when he was exploring other career options. Robert remembers looking at the transportation industry and choosing Stevens because of the superior training reputation, along with their high priority on safety. Robert quickly started CDL training at the Stevens Driving Academy in Dallas, TX and graduated with his CDL soon after.
Robert then attended orientation and completed his over-the-road training with his trainers. “I was a bit nervous when I was behind the wheel for the first time with my trainers, but with their support, I was able to learn so much and become confident in my driving abilities. I also still call them to this day and ask them questions.”
I really love what I am doing, and I love that Stevens offers these opportunities to their drivers. In the future, I plan to expand my business, and I know with the constant support that I receive from everyone at Stevens, I can make those plans a reality!

Changing Lanes to the Contractor Division
Two months later, Robert made the decision to open an independent business with the support of our Contractor Division. And signed a two-year lease. Once that lease was completed, Robert made the decision to purchase his truck. “I really love what I am doing, and I love that Stevens offers these opportunities to their drivers. In the future, I plan to expand my business, and I know with the constant support that I receive from everyone at Stevens, I can make those plans a reality!”
Although Robert has been all over the contiguous United States, he has a few places that he loves to visit. “In the summer, I love visiting upstate New York. The scenery is amazing. I also love visiting Chicago in the fall because of the changing atmosphere.”
Credits Skills Learned Through Military Service
Robert also credits his past military experience for aiding him to make a smooth transition to the transportation industry. “In the military, you always have to be on time and plan everything accordingly. You also have to be responsible and have a deep sense of independence. Those skills that I gained during my time in the service have helped tremendously in this new position.”
Congrats on all of your success Robert and we can’t wait to see what else you will accomplish at Stevens!
