From Command Sergeant Major to Stevens Transport Driver: Meet Gary W. Williams

2026 Transition Trucking Countdown to Voting

Gary Williams entered the Army as an information systems specialist with one goal: make Sergeant First Class, then decide what came next. He reached that milestone in under ten years, prompting him to set his sights higher. After changing his military occupational specialty, Gary spent most of his career as a medic, rising to Chief Medical NCO and ultimately Command Sergeant Major. Across thirty-one years of service and two deployments, he learned to lead teams, make decisions under pressure, and take responsibility for the well-being of those in his care.

After retiring from the military, he and his wife settled in San Antonio to be close to their four children and three grandchildren.

When Gary began looking for a civilian career, he wanted steady work without the uncertainty of feast-or-famine cycles. Trucking offered a clear path forward. He graduated from Southern Careers Institute in January 2026 and joined Stevens Transport weeks later. Since then, he has maintained a stellar safety record and embraced the independence and responsibility that come with life behind the wheel.

Gary’s commitment to service extends beyond his career. He proudly supports fellow veterans and organizations such as the Travis Manion Foundation, regularly participating in walks, marches, and hikes. Soldiers he once led still call him for advice, and he continues to make time for them. As he builds his career at Stevens Transport, he remains dedicated to helping others find their own way forward.

Being named among the top five recognizes Gary’s service in uniform and the commitment he continues to demonstrate on the road and in his community.

VOTE for GARY W. WILLIAMS on November 1 and help him win a brand new Kenworth T680 truck that will surely change his life and his family’s lives.
