Operation Patriot VA-Approved Apprenticeship
As a supporter of the Veterans Affairs (VA) on-the-job training and apprenticeship program, we are proud to assist military veterans in their transition to civilian occupation. Stevens Transport’s Apprenticeship program, known as Operation Patriot, was established several years ago in partnership with the Department of Labor and the Department of Veterans Affairs. This program provides transitioning military personnel with a 12-month apprenticeship to help them advance their careers in the civilian world. Stevens Transport’s apprenticeship program is widely recognized as the gold star of the industry.
By taking advantage of Operation Patriot, an eligible veteran can earn On-the-Job Training (OJT) benefits via the GI Bill® of up to $21,213.60. The OJT benefits allow eligible veterans to earn additional tax-free income in addition to Stevens Transport’s superior first-year driver pay putting our veterans in the top ranks of income earners as a first-year driver.
As a Driver, I got to see the Country I served for 28 years. Stevens Transport is a natural fit for all military personnel.

The Transition Trucking: Driving for Excellence Award is presented annually to a veteran who has successfully transitioned from military service to a civilian trucking career. To address the shortage of drivers and create job opportunities for transitioning military personnel, the U.S Chamber of Commerce Foundation’s Hiring Our Heroes Program (HOH), Kenworth, and FASTPORT have collaborated to present a fully-equipped Kenworth T680 Next Generation truck to a deserving veteran entering the trucking industry.
The selection of America’s top military rookie driver occurs after a year-long competition among veterans, guard members, and reservists who have successfully transitioned into the trucking industry after their military service. This competition not only acknowledges their achievements but also serves as an educational platform, highlighting the opportunities available and the contributions made by veterans in this field.
Since its establishment in 2016, Stevens Transport has consistently advocated for our rookie military veteran drivers to win the award. We take pride in the unrivaled accomplishments of our nominees, setting us apart from any other carrier in the industry. Demonstrating our commitment, our drivers have emerged as grand prize winners of a fully-equipped Kenworth T680 truck twice since 2017. Additionally, they have secured the runner-up position twice and consistently ranked among the Top 10 contenders on two other occasions.
