Stevens Trainer Passionate About Trainees’ Success
As a grocery store manager, Ryan Miller had the pleasure of meeting professional drivers from all over the country and enjoyed getting to hear about their over-the-road experiences. He longed for the chance to join the industry himself and realized that his fear of change was the only thing standing between him and his new career. “After hearing about how easy and made that these drivers had it, I asked myself why am I wasting my time doing something that I don’t love? It was then that I and three of my friends decided to quit our jobs and pursue this new profession!”
Road To CDL Training
Soon after, Ryan was attending Carolina Truck Driving School in Charlotte, NC, and enjoyed every minute of it. “There was one instructor that I met, Dale, who was very instrumental in my success at school. He was very patient with us, and his teachings, along with my personal interest in the industry, helped me easily pass the four-week program.”
After receiving his CDL, Ryan researched many companies to see which one would be the best fit for him. “I wanted to join a carrier that not treated me as a part of their family but also put an emphasis on safety. The biggest goal in this industry is to get back home safely, and I knew that in order to achieve this goal daily, I needed a company that viewed it the same. Once I came across Stevens, I knew that I was going to be in good hands!”
Ryan also ensures that he is teaching his students the proper way to operate their trucks with safety, compliance, and service in mind.

Since joining Stevens Transport, Ryan has not only accomplished his daily goal, but he has traveled all across the country, and has made great strides in his career! “Along with being an OTR driver, I am also an active Driver Trainer. I’ve appreciated this experience because it has not only made me a better person but overall a better driver. I have had many of my trainees ask me questions that I didn’t know the answer to, and it required me to make new acquaintances and friends and ask for their guidance. It truly puts an emphasis on the amount of teamwork that is required in this industry!”
Driver Manager Praises Driver’s Commitment
Ryan’s Driver Manager, Diana Johnson, commended Ryan on his passion and commitment to the industry and his students. “Ryan is constantly challenging himself daily to be better than he was the day before. He also ensures that he is teaching his students the proper way to operate their trucks with safety, compliance, and service in mind. His sense of humor is also unmatched and helps alleviate many of the obstacles that our drivers experience in this industry. I’m glad to have him on my fleet, and cannot wait to see what else he will accomplish!”
In order to be a successful driver, you must have the drive to accomplish all of the goals that you set for yourself and have patience.

Ryan also passed along some sound advice for those thinking about joining the industry. “In order to be a successful driver, you must have the drive to accomplish all of the goals that you set for yourself and have patience. There will be many things that will discourage you, including other motorists cutting you off and possibly running late on a delivery, but it’s better to be a tortoise than a hare. Keep safety in mind, and always remember that at the end of the day, the most important thing is to get home safely to your loved ones.”
When he is not driving his truck across the country, Ryan enjoys riding his 2018 Chieftain Motorcycle and competing in local pool tournaments.
