Owner-Operator Reflects On Career Accomplishments
Meet Stevens Transport Driver Juan Torres
For Stevens driver Juan Torres, becoming a professional driver was always a dream that he wanted to pursue. He was surrounded by the profession growing up as his immediate family members were drivers, and he recalled the many trips that he would tag along on. In November of 2002, Juan made his dream a reality by obtaining his CDL at American Truck Driving School in Waco, TX.
“I thoroughly enjoyed my schooling experience,” Juan said. “They passed along much valuable information about the industry I learned things about both the profession and the industry that I would have not even thought about! When it came time to choose where I would continue this new career, I chose Stevens, because of their well-maintained truck, along with their strong stance on safety!”
Juan excitedly made his way to Dallas, TX to complete his orientation and over-the-road training with his trainer. Juan remembered that his training began during the winter-time, so got to experience driving in the snow for the first time, a memory that he will never forget!
Now, 18 years later, Juan completed many of his goals, including purchasing his truck, a Volvo VNL, and becoming an Owner-Operator with Stevens Transport CD, Inc., training over 80 new drivers as a Stevens Certified Driver Trainer, and achieving an accomplishment only ten percent of drivers have accomplished: one million accident-free safe miles!

With all of the knowledge and experience Juan has gained over his time as a professional driver, he made sure to pass along his top tips for new drivers. “You must have patience. What you don’t earn monetarily, you make up in experience. Once that experience is applied, you will be rewarded greatly!”
When Juan is not driving, he enjoys working on cars, exploring new places, and visiting new museums.
