Former Businessman Becomes Truck Driver, Calls Himself a Paid Tourist
Melton Boone had pursued a multitude of different business opportunities, from opening nightclubs to owning car dealerships, but none of them had filled his true desires. While looking for his next business move, many acquaintances suggested the transportation industry. After extensive research, Melton knew that it would be his next career move.
Attending CDL Training In Georgia
Melton contacted Stevens Transport soon after and was quickly scheduled to attend school at Georgia Driving Academy in Columbus, GA. “One of the things I greatly appreciated was the swiftness of the recruiting process. I knew that if I was going to do this, I wanted to start as soon as possible, and Stevens Transport, along with my recruiter, Brenecia, were able to help me accomplish just that.”
After Melton completed his classes and obtained his CDL, he was off to the Stevens Transport headquarters in Dallas, TX, where he completed orientation and his over-the-road training with his trainer. “The training I received from Stevens was outstanding. It was intense, but the thorough curriculum helped me understand a lot more about the industry and the role I play in it.”
Loves Seeing The Country
During his training, Melton traveled all across the country and even found some breathtaking sites. “I loved visiting Las Vegas at night; the lights are so beautiful. During the day, I really loved Pennsylvania and upstate New York. The scenery there is so beautiful, and I cannot wait to visit there again!”
Soon after Melton graduated from his training, he made the decision to join the Independent Contractor Division at Stevens and signed a two-year lease for a 2018 Kenworth T680 truck. Melton stated that he is very excited about this new venture and even has future plans to purchase a truck from Stevens!
Great Support System Fueled Melton’s Trucking Success
Melton credits all of the success he has had so far in the industry to his strong belief system and his family. “I had many people doubting me in this career move, but that is actually my motivation to work harder every day. I’m just so happy that I have a great support system behind me cheering me on every day.”
Melton wanted to also leave some advice for those thinking about joining this industry. “Make sure that this career is one that you want to pursue. Do your research, and make sure you have all of your priorities in order. Also, give it your all, because the outcome you receive is worth it.”
